Otherwise Alone
Lieutenant Evan Arden sits in a shack in the middle of nowhere, waiting for orders that will send him back home - if he ever gets them. Other than his loyal Great Pyrenees, there's no one around to break up the monotony. The tedium is excruciating, but it is suddenly interrupted when a young woman stumbles up his path.
He has two choices - pick her off from a distance with his trusty sniper-rifle, or dare let her approach his cabin and enter his life.
Why not? It's been ages, and he is otherwise alone...
reviews
LizzieMac09 - Short-story writing is a real art, and not everyone can do it; creating a truly captivating plot, with well-rounded and multi-dimensional characters within the short-story format is no easy task, but Ms Savage has hit every button.
Ana B C - She's insightful and intense, and has a knack of putting unassuming words together and making them into something entrancing. Her storytelling is addictive and beautiful, and it leaves you with an undeniable sense of wonder.
J. Sokolowski - She paints pictures with words that describe, in graphic detail, the desolate and isolated world of a man in exile. In no way was I able to predict the outcome of this riveting, almost harrowing in places, unexpected little gem.
